Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia strengthen economic ties as Riyadh identifies Dhaka as a priority partner and signals greater investment and business engagement, while both sides explore broader cooperation and high-level exchanges.
The two nations are looking to improve their relations at an economic level, with investments and business opportunities forming the core of their efforts, as Saudi Arabia considers Bangladesh among its top priority countries. This came following a meeting between Bangladesh State Minister of Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir and Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud in Jeddah.
The meeting will be held on the sidelines of the 23rd Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers. In the course of the discussion, Kobir hands over a letter from the Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to the Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman, as both parties are pleased with the progress of bilateral ties.

The prince says that Bangladesh is one of the priority countries for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and stresses the need to enhance economic cooperation. Prince Faisal highlights that there has been an increase in the interest of companies from Saudi Arabia to do business in Bangladesh.
The conversations suggest that economic cooperation is turning into an ever more critical component of the Bangladesh-Saudi partnership. The increased involvement of Saudi Arabia can give Bangladesh chances to raise funds, boost industry, and establish commercial connections with one of the biggest economies of the Middle East region.
Bangladesh also emphasises the significance of high-level interaction that occurred between the two countries recently. Kobir mentions that there have been many senior-level interactions between Bangladesh and India after the emergence of the BNP-led government in the country, which has opened up new avenues for cooperation in various fields.
The economic ties are part of broader cooperation that exists between the two nations. Saudi Arabia is known to be one of the favourite destinations of Bangladeshi labour, and Prince Faisal praises the role of Bangladeshis residing in the country in helping develop it. This makes labour migration and expatriation another dimension of their relationship.
Deep involvement between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia would enable Bangladesh to develop its attempts to diversify its foreign investment sources as well as build economic relations with the Gulf region. For their part, Saudi firms can get into the vast domestic market of Bangladesh.
The two states have also been attempting to bring more dynamism into their overall strategic relationship. Previously, Bangladesh has characterized its relationship with Saudi Arabia as having transcended its religious ties and becoming more inclusive of strategic and economic dimensions.
