The United States and Indonesia have taken a significant step toward strengthening their defence ties following high-level talks between Pete Hegseth and Indonesian Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin in Washington.

The two nations established a "Major Defense Cooperation Partnership" which serves as a new framework for enhancing their existing military ties that they have maintained throughout their relationship.

The new framework is designed to deepen collaboration and reflects the growing strategic importance of Indonesia in maintaining stability across the Indo-Pacific region.

The partnership will serve as a comprehensive platform to enhance defence cooperation between the two countries. The plan includes expanding joint military training activities and developing professional military education exchange programs and establishing better operational links between armed forces.

Both nations aim to establish stronger relationships between their defence institutions and personnel which will create enduring partnerships based on mutual understanding.
