UBTech, Airbus Partner on Humanoid Robots for Aviation

Asia Manufacturing Review Team | Monday, 19 January 2026

  • UBTech partners with Airbus to test Walker S2 humanoid robots in aviation manufacturing facilities worldwide.
  • The collaboration builds on UBTech’s earlier industrial trials, highlighting rising global demand for humanoid robotics.
  • Market optimism surge as UBTech shares jumped, signaling confidence in long-term humanoid robot adoption worldwide.

China’s humanoid robot manufacturer, UBTech Robotics, has recently signed a cooperation agreement with aerospace giant Airbus to introduce superior humanoid robots in aviation manufacturing.

This move has emerged as a historic stepping stone in the international expansion of the Chinese technology giant. As part of this agreement, Airbus has acquired UBTech Robotics' Walker S2 robot, which will then be tested and evaluated for implementation in its aviation manufacturing plants.

The new partnership with Airbus comes as a result of a previous cooperation between UBTech and Texas Instruments, which involved implementing and testing Walker S2 robots at semiconductor manufacturing lines to show UBTech’s ultimate intention of increasing its presence in the industrial robotics market outside China.

The latest foray by UBTech into the European aerospace industry also indicates an increasing interest in humanoid robots by the international market for complex industrial settings.

Walker S2 is an industrial-grade humanoid robot, about 1.76 meters tall, fitted with dexterous arms and hands, as well as a vision system that allows it to move around and perceive the environment in factory settings. Capabilities are intended to support a variety of manufacturing tasks that typically involve human dexterity.

The success that UBTech has had recently has had spillover effects on the company’s financials because its stocks skyrocketed on the Hong Kong stock exchange after the Airbus announcement.

This is clear proof of the optimism in the markets about the commercial viability of the humanoid robot technology embraced by leading global manufacturers.

The agreement with Airbus is considered to have the potential to start a multi-year collaboration because both partners are set to further explore how the humanoid robots could assist in and also change the aviation production process, though the details of the deployment and the timeline for the integration are yet to be known.
