  • The district will drive clean technology, research, and sustainable entrepreneurship.
  • Initiative promotes youth involvement, SME participation, and global low-carbon innovation.

The UAE has inaugurated its first Green Innovation District at Expo City Dubai, which officials have called a national landmark that aligns the nation’s economic and environmental objectives within a single framework for sustainable development. The initiative, a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Economy and Tourism and Expo City Dubai, aims to develop a center for clean technology, research, and entrepreneurship, propelling the shift toward a more sustainable economy.

During the launch event, Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, the Minister of Economy and Tourism, stated that this initiative marks a new stage in the UAE’s enduring development framework “Today’s announcement marks a new chapter in our country’s sustainability journey. It represents the coming together of our economic and environmental goals and our shared belief that the green economy is not a niche agenda, but the next phase of global competitiveness,” he said.

The Green Innovation District will act as a hub for renewable energy projects, eco-friendly manufacturing, sustainable transportation, and circular economy initiatives. In the coming ten years, funding for clean energy and sustainable sectors throughout the UAE is projected to increase more than threefold. Al Marri stated that the district will assist in directing this momentum towards tangible results that aid national and regional decarbonization initiatives.

The district will include research centers, testing areas, and incubators for both startups and established companies that concentrate on low-carbon innovation. It seeks to draw international companies in search of a reliable regional hub while generating high-quality employment in the clean sector.

The minister also emphasized that sustainability should be inclusive. The district will foster youth involvement and create opportunities for small and medium businesses as well as research institutions. “Sustainability is also about inclusion,” he said. “The district will create opportunities for SMEs and research centres to collaborate. It will encourage youth participation, giving the next generation a direct role in shaping the technologies and solutions of tomorrow.”
