Turkiye and Azerbaijan sign more than $500 million in defence agreements covering 14 Hürkuş-II aircraft, smart munitions, coastal defence systems, radar technology and joint production.

Turkiye and Azerbaijan have signed defence agreements worth more than $500 million to expand cooperation in defence industries, including the supply of military aircraft, smart munitions, coastal defence systems and radar technology. The agreements were signed during the Azerbaijan International Defence Exhibition 2026 in Baku.

The agreements include a contract with Turkish Aerospace Industries for 14 Hurkuş-II trainer aircraft. Turkiye’s Defence Industries President Haluk Görgün said the aircraft are scheduled to be delivered to Azerbaijan this year, alongside deliveries to the Turkish Air Force.

The package also includes procurement agreements with Baykar for Mızrak smart loitering munitions and Antidot systems. Roketsan has secured an agreement related to the Barbaros Coastal Defence System, while Aselsan signed a memorandum of understanding covering the supply of ALP-100 radar systems.

The agreements form part of broader efforts by Turkiye and Azerbaijan to expand cooperation in defence technologies and strengthen their defence-industrial capabilities. Gorgun said the latest deals build on cooperation between the two countries in areas including natural disasters, wars and other emergencies.

Beyond equipment procurement, the two countries are also pursuing cooperation in education, research and local production. Turkiye’s Council of Higher Education and its Defence Industries Presidency signed an academic cooperation memorandum with Azerbaijan’s Defence Industry Ministry and Science and Education Ministry.

The partnership also includes plans for industrial cooperation in Azerbaijan. Aselsan and NOVASIS signed a preliminary agreement to establish a factory in Nakhchivan, while Turkish and Azerbaijani defence companies concluded additional agreements covering research and development, logistics and radio-frequency technologies.

The latest agreements were concluded at ADEX 2026, which provided a platform for defence companies and government representatives from the two countries to discuss new projects and technology cooperation.

The agreements expand the scope of Turkiye-Azerbaijan defence cooperation from equipment procurement to research, manufacturing, education and technology development.
