There will be continued high-level defence cooperation as part of the relationship. Both countries have been looking for ways to deepen cooperation in the defence sector, including advanced systems and related technologies, with potential opportunities for cooperation between companies and institutions from both parties in advanced systems and technologies.
Another field of interest is in economic cooperation. Greater investment from Japan and improved trade relations have the potential to foster industrial cooperation and opportunities in manufacturing and other industries. Both countries have been diplomatic partners for decades and their relationship has been gradually evolving from diplomacy to business and technology.
The leaders also discussed the Iran-US conflict and that of the broader region. Meanwhile, negotiations are the only means to solve the conflict and stabilize the situation, Erdogan said, and asserted that Turkiye supports all diplomatic efforts to bring about a lasting peace and stability.
The regional dialogue follows the ongoing concerns regarding the effects of the conflict on security, energy resources and international trade. In addition to its critical position in regional diplomacy due to its geographical location, Japan is also actively involved in the developments affecting the stability of the world's energy and economy.
Erdogan also extended his sympathies to Takaichi after the earthquake in the Kumamoto area of Japan last month, killing people. The gesture highlighted the historical ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries in the field of humanitarian and diplomatic relations.
