Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani arrives in Riyadh with a high-level delegation to strengthen bilateral ties with Saudi Arabia and discuss regional developments.

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani arrived in Riyadh, leading a high-level delegation for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding consultations between Syria and Saudi Arabia. The visit also focuses on regional developments and areas of mutual interest.

Al-Shaibani was received upon arrival by Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Al-Khuraiji, according to the Saudi Press Agency. The Syrian Foreign Ministry said the visit forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen diplomatic engagement and develop relations between Damascus and Riyadh.

The visit follows a telephone conversation on October 11 between Al-Shaibani and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. During the call, the Syrian minister expressed Syria’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia in response to Houthi attacks targeting civilian facilities. He also stressed that Saudi Arabia’s security was closely connected to Syria’s security and that of the wider region.

The latest engagement builds on a series of high-level contacts between the two countries. The foreign ministers met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September, where they discussed strengthening cooperation and reviewed regional and international developments. Al-Shaibani also visited Riyadh in July for talks on bilateral relations and opportunities to expand cooperation.

Saudi Arabia has played a role in supporting Syria’s political transition and reconstruction efforts following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government in December 2024. Both countries have sought to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties, with discussions in recent months covering cooperation, investment and regional stability.
