Sri Lanka and Russia have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) which will establish stronger transport sector cooperation between their two nations. The agreement aims to enhance partnerships between the two countries through their respective aviation and maritime transport and logistics operations. The officials stated that improved transportation infrastructure will create new pathways for trade and tourism and investment which will lead to economic expansion and progress.
The MoU describes plans to investigate new transportation routes while enhancing current transportation systems through the evaluation of Russia's Far East region and its main trade center at Vladivostok. Sri Lanka plans to establish its identity as a strategic hub that connects South Asia with Russia and other parts of the world through its development of maritime and air transportation links.
