During the 18th Korea–Uzbekistan Policy Consultation held in Uzbekistan, South Korea’s Deputy Minister for Political Affairs Chung Eui-hye and Uzbekistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mirbokhid Azimov review preparations for the upcoming summit. The discussions focus on establishing a new framework for cooperation between South Korea and Central Asian countries.
Both sides emphasize the importance of strengthening their Special Strategic Partnership by expanding collaboration in traditional and emerging sectors. Energy, transportation, infrastructure development, and economic connectivity remain major areas of focus, with both governments seeking to create stronger foundations for long-term growth.
The two countries also identify critical minerals, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, digital transformation, climate action, and agriculture as priority sectors for future cooperation. Following the policy consultation, Chung meets Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov to discuss the outcomes of the discussions, preparations for the Uzbek President’s visit to South Korea in September, and ways to further advance bilateral relations.
