South Korea, Mongolia Push CEPA Talks Forward

South Korea and Mongolia have renewed discussions to accelerate negotiations about their Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) which will strengthen their economic ties and create fresh trading and resource development opportunities.

The high-level meeting between officials from both countries served as the platform for the two sides to assess their past negotiations while they worked together to find solutions for current obstacles.

The CEPA negotiations, which began several years ago, have experienced delays because the two parties involved in the negotiations cannot reach an agreement about market access and trade rules and the Mongolian side maintains its economic openness concerns.

The two parties identified the existing obstacles which required them to establish better communication through their dialogue and their understanding of each other.

South Korean officials emphasized that they need to restore the discussion progress by using flexible methods to resolve their remaining issues which would lead to a win-win solution.

The renewed negotiations concentrate on critical mineral cooperation because Mongolia possesses valuable natural resources which include copper and rare earth elements and other essential materials.

South Korea considers Mongolia to be a strategic partner who helps the country maintains reliable supply chains for essential resources used in electronics and renewable energy and advanced manufacturing industries.

The discussions brought up wider economic relationships between the two nations because both nations acknowledged the increasing number of Korean companies that operate in Mongolia together with their future potential to invest and work together.

The two countries want to build deeper trade connections and improve resource partnerships through their efforts to speed up CEPA negotiations which will support their economic development goals.

The two nations have renewed their efforts to establish stronger diplomatic ties while they work to adapt their relationship to changes in the global economic landscape.
