South Korea and Kyrgyzstan are seeking to expand bilateral economic cooperation by strengthening trade relations and deepening collaboration in critical minerals and development initiatives. The discussions take place during a meeting in Seoul between South Korean Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan and Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Economy and Commerce Bakyt Sydykov.
During the talks, both countries emphasize the importance of diversifying trade items to enhance long-term economic engagement. Officials note that bilateral trade reached approximately US$3.5 billion last year, marking the highest level since diplomatic relations was established in 1992. The milestone reflects growing commercial exchanges and increasing economic connectivity between the two nations.
A key focus of the meeting is cooperation in the field of critical minerals. Kyrgyzstan possesses substantial reserves of antimony and tungsten, resources considered strategically important for advanced manufacturing, clean energy technologies, and semiconductor industries. South Korea expresses interest in building stable supply partnerships to support its industrial and technological sectors. Both sides agree to strengthen collaboration in resource development and related investment opportunities.

Minister Kim states that stronger economic collaboration with Kyrgyzstan aligns with South Korea’s broader efforts to diversify trade partnerships and secure resilient supply chains for critical industrial materials. He adds that both governments are committed to accelerating practical cooperation in areas that deliver mutual economic benefits.
