South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has outlined plans to deepen cooperation with Singapore in emerging technologies and renewable energy at the start of his state visit.

Positioning the relationship as future-focused, Lee highlighted both nations’ reliance on human capital rather than natural resources as a foundation for long-term cooperation.

The visit comes ahead of a summit with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, their second meeting in four months following the elevation of bilateral ties to a strategic partnership. Both governments are seeking to widen engagement in artificial intelligence, energy, the green transition and defence, while reinforcing trade & investment flows.

Lee told Korean residents in Singapore that the strengthened partnership could guide relations for the next fifty years by opening new routes for collaboration across strategic sectors. He added that expanding cooperation would support wider regional stability and long-term technological development.

The president’s programme also includes a meeting with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and participation in AI Connect, a forum bringing together business leaders and entrepreneurs from both countries to explore opportunities in AI research and commercial innovation.

Officials from both sides are expected to discuss mechanisms to translate the upgraded partnership into concrete initiatives, particularly in technology-driven growth and sustainable energy development.
