QatarEnergy is in advanced talks with US producer Venture Global for a long-term LNG supply deal covering at least three million tonnes annually, as the Gulf energy company seeks alternative supplies amid regional disruptions.

QatarEnergy is in advanced negotiations with US liquefied natural gas (LNG) producer Venture Global to secure a long-term supply agreement covering at least three million tonnes of LNG annually, according to sources familiar with the discussions. The potential deal comes as Qatar seeks to diversify its gas supplies amid disruptions to exports and shipping routes in the Middle East.

QatarEnergy has been purchasing LNG from Venture Global through the spot market to meet the requirements of some customers. Disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, following the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran, have affected the movement of energy supplies from the Gulf region. The situation has increased the importance of securing alternative sources to maintain deliveries to international buyers.

The timeline for a potential agreement and the duration of the contract remain unclear. Neither QatarEnergy nor Venture Global immediately responded to requests for comment, and no final agreement has been announced. If concluded, the deal would provide QatarEnergy with an additional source of US LNG and strengthen its supply options for global markets.

Venture Global is among the US LNG suppliers with substantial uncommitted export capacity. The company is developing its CP2 LNG export facility in Louisiana, which could increase its export volumes once operations begin. The project is expected to strengthen the company's position in the international LNG market and expand the availability of US natural gas for overseas customers.

The negotiations follow QatarEnergy's recently announced agreements with US LNG exporter Cheniere Energy. On October 22, 2026, QatarEnergy signed two long-term contracts to purchase up to four million tonnes of LNG annually from Cheniere's Sabine Pass facility in Louisiana and Corpus Christi terminal in Texas. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2031 and continue through 2054.

The potential Venture Global agreement would add to QatarEnergy's efforts to diversify its international LNG portfolio and maintain supply commitments amid uncertainty over regional production and shipping. For US exporters, a long-term contract would offer another major customer for American LNG and support the country's role in global gas markets.

The discussions highlight how geopolitical tensions and disruptions to critical shipping routes are reshaping LNG procurement strategies, encouraging buyers to seek more flexible and geographically diversified supply arrangements.
