Morocco and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are enhancing their collaboration, having signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation in industrial property rights.

The signing event occurred at the 66th General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, which lasted until July 17.

The agreement was finalized by the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC) and the UAE’s Intellectual Property Sector, in the presence of Omar Zniber, Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, and Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy.

Through this agreement, both nations aim to enhance and strengthen collaboration in industrial property to promote innovation and stimulate economic growth.

At the signing ceremony, both sides evaluated the advancements that each nation has achieved in industrial property development.  They also talked about possible collaborative projects that could enhance the intellectual property sectors of both countries.

The memorandum marks an important advancement in the bilateral ties between Morocco and the UAE, especially concerning patents, trademarks, and various types of industrial property protection. The collaboration is also a component of both nations’ initiatives to promote knowledge exchange and best practices among their intellectual property agencies.

The agreement occurs as Morocco and the UAE both work to enhance their intellectual property systems and bolster their roles as regional centers for innovation and business growth.

Earlier this year, OMPIC revealed the nationwide expansion of its electronic business creation platform, intending to offer a centralized interface for all essential administrative processes.

The initiative focuses on essential organizations such as OMPIC, the Ministry of Justice, the government’s general secretariat, the General Directorate of Taxes (DGI), and the National Security Fund (CNSS).
