Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized Botswana's role as a vital partner for Malaysia in Africa, noting substantial Malaysian investments in the country during a courtesy visit from Botswana’s Vice-President Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe.
In a social media post, Anwar stated that Malaysian investments in Botswana include the automotive wiring manufacturing industry, Limkokwing University’s Gaborone campus, and the maintenance of locomotives and carriages.
“Vice-President Gaolathe also expressed appreciation for the close cooperation through the Performance Management and Delivery Unit and Malaysian experts, which has helped strengthen Botswana’s institutional capabilities in driving economic growth and public service reform,” Anwar said.

Both leaders reflected the three-decade diplomatic partnership founded on trust, respect, and mutual goals for national advancement. The two nations have agreed to explore new avenues of collaboration for mutual benefit, with Anwar extending his greetings to President Duma Boko as a gesture of ongoing camaraderie. Botswana, a landlocked country in Southern Africa, shares its borders with South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Anwar is presently on an Africa tour, with his second destination being South Africa for the G20 Leaders’ Summit. He is joined by Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, government representatives, and a group of business delegates.
