Kuwait’s Emir and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed bilateral cooperation and regional developments as Macron began a Gulf tour covering Kuwait, the UAE, Bahrain and Qatar.
Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and French President Emmanuel Macron held talks on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing regional and international developments as Macron began a four-country tour of the Gulf. The discussions focused on expanding cooperation and reinforcing the longstanding partnership between the two countries.
The meeting took place during Macron’s official visit to Kuwait, which marks 65 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The leaders reviewed existing ties and explored opportunities to broaden cooperation in areas including trade, investment, defence, security, education and other sectors of mutual interest.

According to Kuwait’s state news agency, the talks also covered developments across the Middle East and wider international affairs. Both sides emphasised continued dialogue and coordination to support their shared interests and strengthen bilateral engagement.
Macron’s visit to Kuwait forms the first leg of his Gulf tour, scheduled from October 19 to 21, which also includes the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Qatar. The French presidency has identified regional stability, freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and energy security as key issues for discussions with Gulf leaders.
The tour comes amid heightened regional tensions and disruptions affecting maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important waterway for global energy supplies. France is seeking closer coordination with Gulf partners on regional security and the protection of energy supply routes.
Economic engagement is another important element of the visit. France aims to strengthen its strategic and commercial partnerships with Gulf countries, encourage investment and expand cooperation in energy, defence and security. Kuwait and France have maintained ties across several sectors since establishing diplomatic relations in 1961.
