Synopsis: Kyrgyzstan and Italy strengthen agricultural cooperation through new agreements on mechanization, digital farming, and technology transfer to modernize the agro-industrial sector and improve productivity.

Kyrgyzstan and Italy have strengthened their agricultural partnership by signing a memorandum of cooperation aimed at advancing agricultural mechanization, promoting modern farming technologies, and supporting the modernization of Kyrgyzstan's agro-industrial sector. The agreement reflects both countries' commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity through innovation, technology transfer, and closer institutional collaboration.

The memorandum was signed between Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry and FederUnacoma, Italy's National Federation of Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers. The agreement establishes a framework for expanding cooperation in agricultural mechanization, implementing joint projects, and introducing advanced technologies that can improve farming efficiency and support sustainable agricultural development.

During the discussions, representatives from both sides explored opportunities to modernize Kyrgyzstan's agricultural sector through the adoption of advanced machinery, digital technologies, and innovative farming practices. They also exchanged views on the joint production of agricultural equipment, which could help strengthen local manufacturing capabilities while improving access to modern machinery for farmers. Officials reaffirmed the shared commitment of Kyrgyzstan and Italy to expanding long-term cooperation in agriculture and supporting the sector's technological transformation.

In addition to the government-level agreement, the Association for the Development of the Agro-Industrial Complex of Kyrgyzstan and FederUnacoma signed a separate memorandum of understanding. This agreement is designed to promote collaboration between industry stakeholders by facilitating the exchange of expertise, encouraging business partnerships, and supporting knowledge sharing on modern agricultural technologies and mechanization practices.

Agriculture remains one of Kyrgyzstan's most important economic sectors, contributing around one-tenth of the country's gross domestic product and providing employment for a significant share of the population. Recognising its strategic importance, the Kyrgyz government has prioritised the modernization of agriculture by expanding the use of advanced machinery, improving irrigation systems, increasing productivity, and strengthening value-added food processing industries.

International cooperation plays a central role in achieving these objectives. Partnerships with countries such as Italy provide access to advanced agricultural technologies, specialised equipment, technical expertise, and investment opportunities that can accelerate the sector's development.

The newly signed agreements mark another step in strengthening Kyrgyzstan–Italy relations while supporting the long-term transformation of Kyrgyzstan's agricultural industry. By combining Italian expertise in agricultural machinery with Kyrgyzstan's modernization agenda, both countries aim to enhance farming efficiency, improve food production, encourage innovation, and create a more competitive and sustainable agro-industrial sector.
