South Korea hosts its first summit with the five Central Asian nations, seeking to expand cooperation in trade, investment, critical minerals, energy, infrastructure and supply chains while strengthening strategic ties with the region.
The Republic of Korea will be hosting its first-ever summit between itself and the five Central Asian republics as it tries to increase its cooperation in terms of economics and strategy with these five republics. The historic summit will bring the leaders of the six nations together in Seoul.
President of South Korea Lee Jae Myung is due to meet bilaterally with the leaders of Central Asia from September 14-16, while the joint summit will take place on September 16. This meeting will mark the first multilateral summit involving the leaders of both South Korea and the five Central Asian countries.

Economic collaboration is anticipated to continue being the focus of the negotiations. The country is looking forward to having more opportunities in terms of trade and investments while looking for partnerships in areas such as energy, infrastructure, critical minerals, and high-tech industry. On the other hand, Central Asia can provide access to plenty of natural resources as well as growing markets.
Critical minerals will receive specific attention when nations look to diversify their supply chains for the purpose of advanced manufacturing, batteries, and clean energy technology. Such cooperation will allow South Korea to find alternative sources of critical minerals while Central Asian economies get investment, technology, and industrial know-how.
Both energy and infrastructure serve as key elements of the new relationship. The advanced technologies and expertise of South Korea may be helpful in developing infrastructure in Central Asia, and increased connectivity will help establish trade and investment between the two regions.
This summit is also indicative of the diplomatic policy that Seoul follows regarding Central Asia. South Korea has been collaborating with the region via the Korea-Central Asia Cooperation Forum involving the five Central Asian nations along with South Korea.
