South Korea and Mexico sign a space cooperation MoU covering satellite development, Earth observation, communications, ground stations, space exploration and technology capability building.
South Korea and Mexico have agreed to expand cooperation in space technology, satellite development and communications after the Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Mexico’s Agency of Digital Transformation and Telecommunications (ATDT).
The agreement covers satellite development, Earth observation, information and communications technology, emerging technologies and infrastructure, as well as ground-station engineering and joint use.

The two sides will also explore cooperation in space exploration and the development of technical capabilities. The agreement is expected to provide a basis for exchanges between government agencies and relevant institutions in both countries as they expand their respective space programmes.
A key area of potential cooperation is Mexico’s planned national satellite network. According to the report, KASA and ATDT are expected to explore opportunities for South Korean space companies to participate in Mexico’s satellite network development programme. Such cooperation could include satellite systems, communications infrastructure and related ground facilities.
The MoU also places emphasis on ground-station infrastructure. Joint development and use of ground stations could support satellite communications and Earth-observation services while creating opportunities for technical exchanges and infrastructure development.
For South Korea, the agreement adds to its efforts to expand international cooperation in the space sector and strengthen overseas opportunities for domestic space companies. KASA is responsible for coordinating the country’s national space policy and space development activities.
For Mexico, cooperation with South Korea provides an additional avenue for developing satellite and communications capabilities as the country works on expanding its national space infrastructure. The focus on Earth observation and communications could support applications requiring satellite-based data and connectivity.

The agreement covers both established space technologies and emerging areas, allowing the two countries to pursue cooperation as their respective programmes develop.
