- Kazakhstan and China to build an intelligent water management facility in Taraz.
- The plant will produce digital irrigation, monitoring, and flood-warning systems.
- Project boosts water efficiency, skills training, and long-term water security.
A new advanced facility for intelligent water management and irrigation systems will be set up in Taraz, resulting from a cooperation agreement between the Kazakh Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and a group of Chinese firms, signed by Minister Nurzhan Nurzhigitov and Yin Dewen, Director and Chief Economist of Yellow River Engineering Consulting, according to the ministry's press service.
The new company will produce a diverse array of digital and automated systems, such as intelligent monitoring devices, water-level and water-quality detectors, distribution platforms for irrigation systems, and early-warning systems for floods and crises.
The initiative seeks to adapt popular technologies from China, enabling knowledge sharing and the integration of contemporary water-management practices in Kazakhstan. As stated by the ministry, the facility will be integrated into a center that merges equipment production with specialized training, professional growth, and the customization of digital solutions tailored to the climatic and hydrological conditions of Kazakhstan.

The project is anticipated to enhance irrigation network effectiveness, minimize water wastage, and bolster Kazakhstan’s enduring water security. Nurzhigitov highlighted that collaboration with Chinese partners has yielded noticeable advantages for the industry.
“We agreed to work together in several areas. First and foremost, this is the reconstruction of irrigation systems with mandatory automation and digitalization. The second is personnel training. Over the past two years, we have developed active cooperation with Chinese enterprises,” he said.
