Kazakhstan and Laos are seeking to deepen bilateral economic relations by expanding trade, investment and transport cooperation. The initiative gains momentum during Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith’s visit to Astana, where he holds talks with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on September 3. The discussions focus on improving connectivity and creating new opportunities for economic engagement between Central Asia and Southeast Asia.
President Tokayev highlights Kazakhstan’s strategic position as an important transport and logistics hub connecting major markets across Eurasia. He says the country is interested in strengthening cooperation with Laos and identifies considerable potential for increasing bilateral trade. Kazakhstan aims to use its extensive transport infrastructure and geographic position to facilitate the movement of goods between Southeast Asian markets and Central Asia.

The presidential visit marks the first visit to Kazakhstan by a Lao leader at this level since the two countries establish diplomatic relations in 1997. The meeting provides an opportunity to strengthen political dialogue alongside economic cooperation.
