Indonesia Signs Deal to Buy BrahMos Supersonic Missiles

Indonesia has decided to acquire the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system from India, marking a major development in defence cooperation between the two countries.

The agreement makes Indonesia the second foreign nation to purchase the missile system after the Philippines, highlighting India’s growing presence in the global defence export market.Indonesia uses the agreement to strengthen its military modernization program which focuses on developing better maritime defense systems.

The Indonesian Defence Ministry spokesperson Rico Ricardo Sirait announced that Indonesia signed a contract with India to acquire advanced missile systems.

The BrahMos missile system which India and Russia developed together achieves supersonic speed with its high accuracy making it one of the strongest cruise missile systems that exists today.

The proposed plan will provide Indonesia with a complete BrahMos battery system which includes launchers and radars and coastal defence missiles.

The missile export version enables operational range up to 290 kilometres which allows accurate strikes on both land and sea targets. The acquisition will provide Indonesia with better capabilities to secure its maritime borders and vital sea traffic routes.

The agreement establishes a stronger strategic partnership between India and Indonesia for their joint activities in the Indo-Pacific region.

The two countries have developed their defence relationship through military training exercises and technological partnerships and security discussions. India enables its defense export ambitions through BrahMos missile sales which help allied countries build their military strength.

The procurement of the BrahMos missile system by Indonesia marks a major achievement for India's defense export progress which also strengthens the strategic relationship between the two nations.
