Synopsis: Egypt and Japan’s JICA discuss cooperation on Cairo International Airport development, Cairo Metro Line 4 expansion, education initiatives, and private-sector investments to support sustainable growth and infrastructure modernization.
Egypt and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have discussed expanding their cooperation on major transportation and infrastructure projects, including the development of Cairo International Airport and the ongoing Cairo Metro Line 4 project.
The discussions took place during a meeting between Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, and JICA President Akihiko Tanaka in Tokyo, reflecting the deepening strategic partnership between the two countries. A key focus of the talks was enhancing cooperation to modernize Cairo International Airport and improve transportation infrastructure to support Egypt’s growing tourism sector.
Egyptian officials highlighted the importance of expanding airport capacity and strengthening connectivity as the country continues to attract increasing numbers of international visitors. The proposed initiatives are expected to improve passenger mobility and contribute to broader economic growth.
The two sides also reviewed progress on the Cairo Metro Line 4 project, one of Egypt’s largest urban transportation initiatives. Supported by Japanese financing and technical expertise, the metro expansion aims to reduce traffic congestion, improve urban mobility, and connect key residential, commercial, and tourist destinations across Greater Cairo. The project is expected to play a vital role in supporting sustainable transportation and facilitating access to major landmarks, including the Grand Egyptian Museum and other rapidly developing areas.

He also called for expanding academic partnerships and enhancing programs that support professional development across Africa.
The meeting further addressed opportunities to increase support for private-sector investments, particularly in small and medium-sized enterprises and renewable energy projects. Both sides underscored the importance of continued collaboration in advancing sustainable economic development and fostering innovation-driven growth.
The discussions reaffirm the strong and longstanding relationship between Egypt and Japan, with both countries expressing their commitment to expanding cooperation across infrastructure, education, investment, and development sectors in the years ahead.
