Synopsis: SCO foreign ministers will meet in Kyrgyzstan to prepare for the 2026 SCO Summit, with discussions focusing on regional security, multilateral cooperation, economic integration and the organisation’s future development.
The foreign ministers from the member countries of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) would be attending the Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting at Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan between 23rd and 24th July 2015 to deliberate on regional and international issues and consolidate their multilateral cooperation for the preparation of the coming summit of SCO scheduled to take place at Bishkek this year.
Based on Lin Jian, a spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will attend the talks and conduct negotiations on the changing international and regional situation, on the development of SCO in the future, and possibilities for broadening cooperation in the spheres of politics, security, economy and culture. The Ministers will also discuss the main agenda items of the SCO summit that will take place later this year.

According to Lin, in the past two decades, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has been adhering to the Shanghai Spirit of building mutual trust, equality, consultation, respect for cultural diversity, and striving for common development. Using this philosophy, the SCO has succeeded in enhancing cooperation between its member states in spheres such as security, trade, connectivity, and people-to-people contacts.
The spokesperson made a point of emphasizing the significance of the SCO 2025 Tianjin Summit for the organization. At the meeting, the leaders of member states came to a general agreement about the need to enhance cooperation, strengthen the organizational structure of the SCO and contribute to the development of global governance that would be more balanced. These decisions, according to Lin, will ensure high-quality development of the organization through unity and efficiency.
China reiterated its resolve to work closely together with all members of SCO in implementing the results of the Tianjin summit and enhancing cooperation in areas such as regional security, economic integration, infrastructure development, connectivity and cultural exchanges. Beijing is convinced that greater coordination between members will help achieve peace and prosperity in the Eurasian region.
In conjunction with the SCO summit, there will also be an official visit to Kyrgyzstan by Wang Yi. During his visit, he is expected to meet the leadership of Kyrgyzstan and conduct bilateral talks with the country’s Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev. The talks will revolve around improving bilateral relations, promoting Belt and Road cooperation, and discussing other regional and international matters of common concern.

The Chinese government considers Kyrgyzstan to be a very close neighbor and a vital part of its Belt and Road Initiative, and bilateral relations between the two nations have developed into a comprehensive strategic partnership for a new age. This visit will help in furthering the common understanding that has been developed between the two nations' leaders, and also help in expanding cooperation in various fields.
