- Full astaxanthin production chain consolidated in Yunnan for efficiency and sustainability.
- New lab and larger team to drive innovation in microalgae and ingredients.
- Inauguration on June 20; showcasing at Vitafoods Europe 2025.
BGG is expanding is astaxanthin production facility in Yunnan, China to increase efficiency, quality, and sustainability of production. The upgrades will improve an already world-class facility, which is home to the world’s largest glass-tube photobioreactor platform.
After the project is complete, the upgraded site will effectively integrate the entire value chain – farming to packaging - within a radius of 20km. The consolidation represents a substantial improvement in both cost and carbon footprint to a previous supply chain of over 2,000 km.
As part of the expansion, BGG is also opening a new lab for advanced research, and expanding its R&D team to leverage innovation in microalgae and improving ingredient quality, from around 30 in its previous documentation to 70. This team will collaborate and engage with multiple domestic and international research institutes, and contribute to studies of tropical plants and fungi.

An inauguration of the facility is planned for June 20, expecting representatives from government and the industry. BGG will also be exhibiting at Vitafoods Europe 2025 May 20-22, Stand 4D236, to provide more updates and information.
"We are proud to unveil our latest investment in our state-of-the-art microalgae platform, spanning the entire value chain.
