Vietnam Strengthens Aerospace Partnerships with Airbus and Safran

France's aerospace companies, Airbus and Safran, revealed their desire to increase operations in Vietnam and suggested partnership initiatives with the Vietnamese government and its businesses

During a separate meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Paris, Wouter van Wersch, executive vice president international of Airbus, said his company wanted to extend its co-operation agreement with Vietnam Airlines to modernize its fleet.

He also mentioned cooperation in the space technology sector, particularly offering advanced optical satellite solutions to follow up on the success of the VNREDSat-1 satellite project.

The Airbus executive also proposed collaboration in the use of fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly energy sources and the development of artificial intelligence.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the successful co-operation between Airbus and Vietnamese partners like the successful VNREDSat-1 satellite project and encouraged Airbus to consider a more expanded involvement in Vietnam's aviation sector through aircraft purchase agreements at competitive prices and the timely delivery of aircraft orders.

He also indicated that he would expect Airbus to offer technology transfer, local human resources training, and maintenance and warranty services. In the long term, the Prime Minister indicated that he hoped co-operative projects could extend to research and manufacturing of aircraft components and space exploration.

In a meeting with the leader of the Vietnamese cabinet, Philippe Bardol, Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific, International & Public Affairs at Safran, discussed many opportunities for cooperation in aviation during development planning for airport infrastructure and other prioritized sectors of Vietnam.

He said that Safran is a French multinational group focused on defense and aerospace.  Develops, designs, and manufactures aircraft engines, helicopter engines, spacecraft propulsion systems, and a variety of military and aerospace equipment.

Due to Safran's successful collaboration in Vietnam, the Vietnamese PM asked the corporation to help build the nation’s aviation and aerospace sector in the future. He suggested that Safran work with the Ministry of Science and Technology and other agencies and partners to turn cooperative activities into reality and look at the execution of future projects.

At the same event, the Vietnam-France Business Forum, PM Chinh witnessed a MoU between Vietnam Airlines and Safran Electronics & Defense to lease flight data analysis systems between 2026 and 2030. There was also a MoU between Vietnam's technology giant FPT Corporation and Airbus on the topic of digital transformation collaboration.
