  • Thailand joins United States and allies to strengthen missile and drone production in Asia
  • Initiative focuses on boosting defence manufacturing, improving supply chains, and enhancing regional military readiness capabilities
  • Collaboration under Indo-Pacific partnership aims to address security challenges and support strategic stability across region

Thailand has joined a growing group of US allies working to strengthen defence manufacturing capabilities across Asia especially for missile and drone production.

The move comes under the Partnership for Indo-Pacific Industrial Resilience (PIPIR) which the United States established to improve military readiness and decrease supply chain risks throughout the region.

The partnership now includes 16 countries from the Indo-Pacific region and Europe after Thailand and the United Kingdom joined the alliance.

The initiative focuses on building critical defence infrastructure closer to potential geopolitical flashpoints in Asia. The member nations established a plan to start a missile motor production programme which Japan will lead to produce essential components for guided.

The two groups are working to improve their cooperation on drone technology through shared weapons systems standard development and battery and propulsion system component supply chain integration.

The partnership aims to establish an ammunition production facility in the Philippines which will produce military rounds through assembly and packaging operations.

The efforts work to achieve three goals which involve establishing multiple defense manufacturing sites, decreasing reliance on remote supply networks, and enhancing quick response ability during emergency situations.

Thailand has become a member because its security cooperation activities have increased in importance together with its matching defence strategies that protect the entire Indo-Pacific region.

The initiative demonstrates how countries around the world work to develop military-industrial capabilities that can withstand current geopolitical conflicts.

The partnership creates a shift toward producing defense equipment in local facilities which will improve military readiness and operational compatibility and sustain security throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
