Kuwait and Switzerland sign an MoU to promote direct investment, strengthen economic ties, and expand cooperation in healthcare, fintech, sustainable agriculture, and food security.
The Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) and Switzerland Global Enterprise (SGE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote direct investment between Kuwait and Switzerland, as both countries seek to expand economic and trade cooperation.
The agreement was signed in Bern on September 29 in the presence of Kuwait Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah and Swiss President Guy Parmelin. The signing took place during the Crown Prince’s official visit to Switzerland, which coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The MoU aims to establish a framework for cooperation between the two investment promotion bodies and support investment opportunities in both countries. It is intended to facilitate stronger partnerships, encourage business engagement, and promote direct investment across areas of mutual interest.
The investment agreement forms part of broader discussions between Kuwait and Switzerland on strengthening bilateral economic relations. During the meetings, both sides identified healthcare, financial technology, sustainable agriculture, and food security as sectors with significant potential for greater cooperation.
The two countries also highlighted the role of an established legal framework in supporting economic ties. This includes the free trade agreement between the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), a double taxation agreement, and a bilateral investment treaty.
The agreement comes as Kuwait and Switzerland mark six decades of diplomatic relations. Officials from both sides have expressed interest in expanding trade and investment links while developing cooperation across additional sectors. The Crown Prince’s visit follows Swiss President Guy Parmelin’s official visit to Kuwait in February 2026.
Beyond economic cooperation, discussions during the visit also covered international developments, including the situations in Iraq and Gaza, as well as humanitarian cooperation. Switzerland and Kuwait reaffirmed their commitment to improving the humanitarian situation in the Middle East.
