  • Kazakhstan partners with EBRD and EIB to boost renewable energy investments.
  • Agreements aim to modernize power grids and advance hydropower projects regionally.
  • EU and Kazakhstan strengthen ties for green transition and energy security.

Kazakhstan formalized agreements with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) to enhance investments in renewable energy, hydropower, and the modernization of power grids.

The agreements were made at the Global Gateway Forum in Brussels, where Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy Yerlan Akkenzhenov engaged in several high-level discussions with officials from the European Union and leaders of significant financial institutions.

The signed memoranda seek to attract European investment for key regional projects, such as the Kambarata-1 Hydropower plant and renewable energy efforts throughout Central Asia, according to the Ministry of Energy press service.

At the forum, Akkenzhenov connected with European Commissioner for International Partnerships Josef Sikela and European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Marta Kos. The talks centered on enhancing collaboration in energy security and promoting the green transition.

During the Central Asia Partnership Dialogue, arranged by the German Agency for International Cooperation, energy ministers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan gathered.

Akkenzhenov outlined Kazakhstan's position on regional electricity commerce, collaborative hydropower projects, and the standardization of renewable energy technologies.

“Kazakhstan is a reliable supplier of energy resources and is ready to become Europe’s strategic ally in green energy, critical raw materials, and green hydrogen production,” he said.

Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to the European Union, Roman Vassilenko, highlighted that engaging in such initiatives and collaborating with various international partners is crucial for Kazakhstan, as reported by Kazinform news agency.

“Kazakhstan is interested in transforming the region from being landlocked to land-linked. Therefore, our country’s participation in initiatives such as this fully aligns with the goal of reviving the Great Silk Road,” said.
