  • Murata, Japan-based Apple supplier, starts Chennai facility for multilayer ceramic capacitors.
  •  3,500 sqm plant serves smartphones, EVs, possibly Foxconn, Tata Electronics.
  •  Tamil Nadu emerges as hub for advanced electronics, boosting India’s global tech role.

Murata, a Japan-based Apple supplier, began operations at its inaugural Chennai facility, located at OneHub Chennai Industrial Park, as announced by Tamil Nadu’s Minister of Industries, TRB Rajaa. The 3,500 sqm plant focuses on packaging and shipping multilayer ceramic capacitors, critical components for smartphones, electric vehicles (EVs), and industrial machines.

Murata, holding a 40% global market share in these capacitors, supplies giants like Apple for iPhones and Samsung, reinforcing its pivotal role in the electronics industry.

While it’s unclear if the Chennai facility directly serves Apple’s Indian manufacturers, such as Foxconn and Tata Electronics, its launch marks a significant step for India’s burgeoning electronics manufacturing sector.

The facility positions Tamil Nadu as a key hub for advanced electronic components, aligning with the state’s push to attract global tech investments. Murata’s capacitors, integral to devices from smartphones to NASA’s Mars helicopter, highlight the company’s technological prowess.
