  • India has joined the BRICS Centre for Industrial Competencies to strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities nationwide.
  • The initiative focuses on Industry 4.0 adoption, productivity improvement, and MSME capacity building across sectors.
  • India’s participation promotes global collaboration, technology transfer, and alignment with international manufacturing best practices standards.

India has officially become a member of the BRICS Centre for Industrial Competencies (BCIC) which operates as a joint program that seeks to improve its support services for both the manufacturing industry and Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) throughout all BRICS member countries.

The announcement took place during an event which Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) organized in New Delhi to celebrate India's involvement with the multilateral platform.

The BCIC, launched in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), functions as a one-stop centre offering integrated support services to manufacturing companies and MSMEs across member countries.

The organization focuses on three main objectives which involve developing Industry 4.0 capabilities and boosting productivity and increasing technological adoption to assist businesses in their efforts to modernize operations for better global market competition.

The signing of a trust fund agreement between DPIIT and UNIDO officials established India's involvement in the BCIC framework while demonstrating their shared dedication to advancing industrial development.

The National Productivity Council has been appointed as the main governmental organization that will oversee India's engagement with BCIC according to the terms of the agreement.

The National Productivity Council will implement capacity building and productivity enhancement initiatives through its partnership with UNIDO and its work under DPIIT policy guidelines.

The launch event invited representatives from multiple ministries and industry organizations and UNIDO officials to demonstrate the need for international and industry-wide partnerships to support industrial development.

India participates in the BCIC because it wants to achieve its manufacturing and MSME sectors through worldwide industrial best practices and current technological developments which will build its economic strength while improving its BRICS economic ties.
