Major PC manufacturers including HP, Asus, and Acer are reportedly evaluating the use of memory chips from China's ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) to address ongoing global DRAM shortages. However, manufacturers are proceeding cautiously to avoid straining relationships with established suppliers such as Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron, which continue to dominate the memory market.
Leading PC manufacturers, including HP, Asus, and Acer, are reportedly considering limited adoption of memory chips produced by China's ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) as persistent global DRAM shortages continue to disrupt supply chains. The move reflects growing pressure on computer manufacturers to secure stable component supplies amid rising demand driven by artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and data centre expansion.
According to industry reports, the companies are evaluating CXMT's memory chips for selected products rather than broad deployment. Manufacturers remain cautious because Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron continue to dominate the global DRAM market and remain their primary suppliers. Expanding purchases from a Chinese supplier could affect long-standing commercial relationships with these established memory manufacturers, particularly at a time when demand for advanced memory products remains exceptionally strong.

The growing interest in CXMT comes as global memory supplies remain constrained. CXMT has emerged as a significant player in the global memory industry over the past year. The Chinese chipmaker has expanded production capacity, increased its domestic market share, and strengthened its technological capabilities, positioning itself as the world's fourth-largest DRAM manufacturer. Industry analysts note that while the company still trails established global leaders in advanced memory technologies, its products are becoming increasingly competitive for mainstream computing applications.
Despite the reported evaluations, manufacturers are expected to adopt a measured approach. Rather than replacing existing suppliers, companies are likely to use CXMT chips selectively to diversify procurement and reduce supply chain risks. Such diversification could help improve component availability while maintaining balanced relationships with leading global memory vendors.
