Egypt has indicated a renewed effort to strengthen economic ties with Qatar, revealing a series of measures to facilitate investment intended to enhance bilateral trade and draw Qatari investment. The declaration was made at the Egyptian-Qatari Business Forum taking place in Cairo.
Hassan ElKhatib, Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, announced that a dedicated committee would be formed to simplify investment and trade processes between the two nations. Experts see the decision as a definite sign of the developing economic relationship between Cairo and Doha.
ElKhatib opened the forum together with Ahmad bin Mohammed Al-Sayed, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade, featuring extensive participation from business leaders and representatives from the private sector of both nations.
Bilateral ties have strengthened significantly after President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi visited Doha in April, where Qatar unveiled a $7.5 billion investment package to bolster its economic collaboration with Egypt.
Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade stressed the significance of enhancing economic collaborations with Cairo, underscoring the private sector’s contribution to promoting growth and generating new investment prospects. He pointed out that ongoing collaboration between firms in both nations promotes the sharing of knowledge and facilitates quality investments that contribute to sustainable growth.

Economist Walid Gaballah, affiliated with the Egyptian Association for Economy and Legislation, stated that the forum acts as an effective means to enhance Qatar’s investment promises in Egypt, particularly in sectors such as tourism, agriculture, technology, and industry. He noted that better investment conditions have already led to an increase in trade volumes.
As per Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, the total bilateral trade between Egypt and Qatar reached $128.4 million in the previous year. Observers remarked that the strengthening economic ties align with enhanced regional collaboration between Cairo and Doha, featuring collective initiatives to foster de-escalation and stability in the area.
