Egypt, China's NORINCO Explore Nuclear and Renewable Energy Ties

Mahmoud Esmat, the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, had discussions with Cheng Defang, Chairperson of China North Industries Group Corporation (NORINCO), at the beginning of his visit to Beijing regarding potential collaboration in exploration, mining, and advanced manufacturing.

NORINCO functions in various strategic sectors, such as defense industries, oil and minerals, global engineering, specialized civil products, and investing in developing industries. The meeting examined prospects for collaborative efforts in exploration, mining, and manufacturing associated with nuclear materials, as well as the sharing of technical knowledge, cutting-edge technologies, and human resource development, to promote the harmless applications of nuclear energy.

The conversations align with orders from political leaders to enhance the benefits from subterranean resources and guarantee their effective management and use. They likewise conform to the action plan of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, which aims to localize industry and facilitate the transfer of advanced technologies in the exploration, extraction, and processing of raw materials and rare, strategic elements.

The discussions included possible collaboration areas under the Nuclear Materials Authority’s scope, such as exploration, extraction, separation, and manufacturing research. The conversations also encompassed collaboration in renewable energy, especially solar and wind energy, energy storage technologies, and the growth of clean energy initiatives. Both sides emphasized that the meeting signifies the enduring and notable partnership between Egypt and China, along with their mutual dedication to enhancing bilateral ties and broadening cooperation in energy sectors to support sustainable development objectives.
