  • Amogy and A*STAR partner to advance ammonia-based clean energy systems.
  • Collaboration targets decarbonization of data centres and energy-intensive industries.
  • Joint R&D includes ammonia-cracking catalysts, digital tools, and workforce training.

Amogy, a U.S. ammonia-to-power technology company, has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Singapore's Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) to collaboratively develop and enhance clean ammonia-based energy systems in alignment with the Singapore Green Plan 2030 and National Hydrogen Strategy.

"This collaboration marks an important step toward advancing decarbonisation in critical sectors such as data centres, while supporting Singapore's low-carbon ambitions," said Amogy chief executive officer, Seonghoon Woo.

At the same time, A*STAR's Assistant Chief Executive of the Science and Engineering Research Council, Professor Lim Keng Hui, stated that it seeks to assist in decarbonizing challenging sectors by promoting low-carbon energy solutions for energy production and bunkering.

A statement indicated that the partnership will investigate trial implementations of Amogy's unique ammonia-to-power systems on Jurong Island, targeting uses in energy-demanding industries such as data centres and heavy manufacturing.

The program also encompasses collaborative research and development (R&D) on advanced ammonia-cracking catalysts, creation of digital integration tools, and workforce training for extensive implementation.

Amogy's technology uses a highly efficient cracking method to obtain hydrogen from ammonia, which is then used in fuel cells or engines to create zero-carbon electricity, providing a scalable alternative to fossil fuels.

A*STAR will offer expertise in safety regulations, cost assessments, and technology scale-up, equally informed by a focus on practical testing and commercialization readiness. The collaboration exemplifies Singapore's ongoing commitment to clean energy and solidifies a position in the region for low-carbon energy solutions.
