  • Amazon plans $570M investment for Kuiper satellite services in Vietnam by 2030.
  • Kuiper targets broadband for underserved areas using low Earth orbit satellites.
  • Amazon and Starlink approved for five-year satellite internet pilots in Vietnam.

Amazon has officially announced its intention to launch the Kuiper satellite internet services in Vietnam, according to Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology. The announcement followed a meeting in Hanoi between Mr. Pham Duc Long, Deputy Minister of Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology, and Gonzalo de Dios, Amazon’s head of Global Licensing for Project Kuiper. Amazon has committed to investing $570 million by 2030.

The investment will allow Amazon to develop infrastructure, including building six or fewer ground stations, and to have local partners in Bac Ninh province where terminals would be manufactured. Amazon has created Amazon Kuiper Vietnam Co., Ltd. in Ho Chi Minh City, and has applied for approval to provide low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite services.

The Kuiper project is designed to offer high-speed broadband to remote, underserved, island locations, targeting customers, businesses, and government entities. Amazon has announced that it will launch a pilot program, and plans for a five-year rollout, as long as permission is granted. Amazon's competitor, Starlink, has also received permission from the government to build a similar project involving satellite internet throughout Vietnam over a five-year period.

Amazon launched its first 27 Kuiper satellites from Florida in April 2025, kicking off the long-awaited start of a space-based internet network. The move coincides with Vietnam's digital transformation aspirations, as it aims to improve connectivity in buildings with limited physical infrastructure. Amazon plans to develop the tech ecosystem in the region with their investment in their partnerships and it will change the potential of their technology space, though the company did not respond to queries outside U.S. business hours.
